The Tune a Day concept by author Moira Hayward
(the basis of a best-selling series of books for band and orchestra instruments, as well as guitar) has been updated for this new series of books from Boston Publications. A New Tune a Day for Piano is the first time that this proven educational method has been adapted for piano!
The Tune a Day method - designed for use with a teacher - identifies each individual lesson by number and sets out specific goals which that lesson should accomplish. Each lesson is accompanied with several songs to play illustrating those goals - hence, A Tune a Day!
This book begins with the rudiments of note reading, followed by information on posture, fingernails, piano tuners, piano stools, choosing the right piano, etc. All concepts - including the introduction - are illustrated generously with photos and easy-to-read diagrams.
The lessons begin with five-finger positions and immediate note-reading. Each song is recorded on the enclosed 97-track CD - once as a performance, and then backing tracks only. By the end of book one, students are playing eighth notes (even swung 8th notes!), different minor scales, and even a bit of improvising. Songs include On Top of Old Smokey, Hava Nagila, Volga Boatmen, Scarborough Fair, Amazing Grace and many more.
Also included - a pull-out chord and scale chart with standard notation, keyboard diagram and photographs.
This special edition includes a DVD with visual information on basic techniques and notation! ""©2006, Book, CD & DVD.
