A New Tune a Day for Tenor Saxophone, Book 1
Ned Bennett, an established woodwind teacher, author, jazz and classical composer, and jazz/big band freelancer, has been tapped to rewrite and update the classic Tune a Day method for tenor saxophone. As with all of the new Tune a Day books, this book features clear diagrams, plenty of photographs, and well-organized lessons with specific goals in mind. In addition to the basics of reading music, the introduction also covers identifying the parts of the saxophone, taking care of the reeds, cork grease, etc. Notes are gradually introduced, and by lesson 3 the student is playing familiar songs such as Jingle Bells. Each song can be played with the accompaniment (on the included CD, which also includes performance only tracks.) Duets, trios and quartets are also included. By the latter part of the book, students are using the octave key and playing "The Entertainer, " "William Tell Overture, " and more. Also included: a pull-out fingering chart which also includes a diagram of the saxophone with the different parts identified. The DVD in the special edition includes footage of setting up the saxophone and playing first notes; as well as performance footage to inspire the beginner! ©2006, Book, CD & DVD, 64 pages.
